This year 9th Human Rights National Magna Meet was organized in the theme “Equal opportunities for women and youth, for development and prosperity “by CSOs of Nepal in collaboration with National Human Rights Commissions of Nepal (NHRC).Sankalpa –Women alliance for peace, Justice and democracy coordinated and Youth Advocacy Nepal (YAN) co-coordinated the event.
The 9th Human Rights National Magna Meet was formally inaugurated by Honorable President Vidhya Devi Bhandari.
Honorable Mr. Anup Raj Sharma-President of NHRC,Women Rights Defender Miss Chadani Joshi,Advisor of 9th Human Rights Magna Meet-Charan Prasain, President of NGO Federation –Gopal Lamsal gave their short remarks.
On 10th December, Rally was organized which was coordinated by NGO Federation and 9th Human Rights Magna Meet. Almost 100 organizations came together to celebrated and show solidarity .The rally began from Bhadarakli temple premises at 8 am in the morning and ended at Shantibatika with Street Drama organized by YAN on Women’s violence.
SImilaly,the chief guest of the formal closing ceremony was Honorable Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun which was held on 11th December 2017.Dr.Mina Acharya-Advisor of 9th Human Rights Magna Meet, Professor Dr.Kapil Shrestha-Adviosr of 9th Human Rights Magna Meet,Ram Lakhan Harijan-President Dalit Ngo Federation,Bhumika Shrestha-Blue Diamond Society, Tilottam Paoudel –youth representative, Mahendra Thapa-representatives from Disabled group, Kamala Khati –elected women candidate from Dolakha give their short remarks during the closing ceremony. National Coordinator Ms. Lily Thapa and Declaration Committee Coordination Ms.Roshana Khadka handed over the Declaration of 9th Human Rights National Magna Meet 2016 to Honorable Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun.
To make magna meet effective & success, different committees were formed .There were seven different committees (Advisor committee, media committee, Report Writing committee, volunteering committee, Declaration committee, fund raising committee, exhibition Committee). This year's Magna meet was arranged into 3-full day (9 -11 December) events along with other side events/workshops held at various locations throughout the country. Sankalpa through its member organizations & CSO organized side events, information sharing and discussion session on various human rights issues in districts, region and province. More than 90 organizations took part during magna meet for solidarity and commitment to human rights.
